Putters

Putters have really changed over the past few decades as technology has promised many new alternatives to the typical putter that your grandfather used to use. A putter used to look like the simplest club in the bag. Since it is only used on the green as the last golf club to put the ball into the hole, you would think it would have remained rather simple in its design. This is surely not the case. Putters today often look like something from out of a space-age movie with different shapes and styles that would make your head spin. Golfers today may be asking the rather desperate question “Which putter should I get?". Everybody is different so it is really a matter of personal taste and what works best for you but some basic things can be said about putters that may help to clear the road as you begin to decide which putter is right for you.

Visualizing a good putt is very important if you want to be a successful putter. When you decide to take hold of one of those putters on sale at your local pro shop, try to imagine a straight line from the putter to the imaginary golf hole on the other end of the store. If you can see this line stretching out in front of you and the putter seems to help you to imagine that line, that might be a good putter to consider for your bag. There are usually two little circular disks that are built into the top of the head on each putter. Lining those circles up with the ball will help you to see the line to the hole.

Another thing to consider is the width of the putter head. Putter reviews will often explain how wide putters are different from other putters that are selling on the market today. Their wide mallet actually has two weights underneath the head that is supposed to increase the accuracy of your putt and make it possible for you to make a few more errors and not suffer the consequences. There is usually an aluminum body as well that makes the overall weight a lot less than you would expect when you look at that giant putter head. This is good because a heavy putter can contribute to more errors on the green.

The major putter brands on the market today are varied. There are the Ping putters, Burrows ion putter, Ping Kushin putter, Wilson Black Jack putter, Belly putter, Burrows Mac ion putter and the Hammy putter. Each of these companies is making a wealthy profit in golf woods and irons and putter sales each year. Sometimes a used Ping putter is a much better option than a new one because putters don’t tend to get a lot of wear over the years and a used one can still have a lot of life left in it. You can also get a putter fitting done on a used model and make it as good as new. Whatever you decide for your next putter, check out all the models first and make an informed decision. Putting is the most important part of the game so be smart out there on the putting green!
